Treat your carpet well and it will provide
you with years of comfort and beauty. Here are some strategies for
minimizing the rough and tumble wear and tear of everyday living.
Outside: Place door mats inside and
outside of exterior doors. This minimizes the tracking of dirt onto
the carpet.
Rippling: High humidity and heat
can cause carpet to ripple. Call Mercer Carpet One for a professional
re-stretch.
Animals: Vacuum often and use deodorizer
on previous "accidents." Some animals will have repeat
accidents because they are drawn to the smell.
Pulls & Burns: Snip off the damaged
fibers. Blot with a soapless cleaner like denatured alcohol. Check
first to make sure the cleaner doesn't discolor carpet.
Furniture: Place glides under heavy
furniture to combat crushing. Rotate furniture to give carpet a
rest.
Food: Clean spills up immediately.
Follow directions in the stain removal guide below.
Food & Beverage Spills:
Scoop up as much of the spill
as possible with a towel or spoon.
Blot the spot (do not
rub or scrub!): gently press clean cloths into the stained
area. Scrubbing can damage the fiber & set the
stain into the carpet.
Apply warm (not hot)
water to the stained area & blot until the water
stops transferring to the cloth.
Place layers of white paper towels
on the spill to absorb the liquid. Weigh down the
towels with a non-staining glass or ceramic object. You
can let it sit over night.
When the carpet is dry, vacuum
to restore the texture.
If you can still see the stain,
make use of the appropriate Resista stain remover.
