Like any floor covering, wood or laminate
floors will show signs of wear over time, depending on the size
and lifestyle of your family. By observing a few precautions and
using the cleaning and maintenance program we recommend, you can
expect years of beauty from your floor.
What to Do:
Vacuum or sweep daily, to help eliminate
fine particles of dirt and grit that act like sandpaper and will
scratch any floor. The vacuum head must be a felt or brush type.
Be certain that the wheels of the vacuum are clean and do not
damage the finish.
Remove spills promptly using a
soft cloth and the recommended Resista Floor Cleaner.
Keep pet nails trimmed and paws
clean and free of dirt, gravel, grease & oil.
Place protective pads beneath
furniture legs to reduce scratches and dents.
Use a dolly and protective sheets
of plywood when moving heavy objects, furniture or appliances.
As added protection, use dirt-trapping
walk-off mats at all exterior doors to keep sand, dirt, grit,
grease and oil outside.
Remove shoes with spiked or damaged
heels before walking on the floor. Spiked or stiletto high-heel
shoes may cause denting and related damage to wood or laminate
floors due to the extremely high compressive force they generate.
Exposure to the sun and its UV rays accelerates
the oxidation and aging of wood and fabrics. This causes the product
to fade and/or
change color. It is recommended that you rearrange rugs and
furniture periodically so the floor ages evenly.
Area rugs are recommended in front of
kitchen sinks, at all pivot points and within high-traffic
areas. The rugs must be made of a breathable material to prevent
moisture entrapment.
Replace hard, narrow furniture
rollers with wide rubber rollers.
What Not to Do:
Never wet mop your hardwood or laminate
floor.
Do not use Swifter wet jet, steamers,
or sponge mops on your floor.
Do not lean back in chairs; this will
cause dents on the floor.
Do not use any wax or cleaner that must
be mixed with water such as Oil
soap
Paste wax products Or
other household cleaners that contain
o Lemon oil
o Tung oil
o Ammonia
o Detergents
o Bleach
o Abrasive cleaning
soaps
o Or acidic materials
such as vinegar
~ These can dull the finish and permanently damage the floor.

Quick Fix Tips:
Spills and tracked-in
dirt: Clean immediately. Wipe
up any moisture; vacuum up all grit and grime. Apply Mercer's hardwood
& laminate floor cleaner lightly to the surface and wipe with
the micro fiber mop or cloth. Excess cleaner that does not evaporate
immediately should be dried with a clean towel. No rinsing is necessary.
.
Chewing gum, candle wax: Apply a
sealed plastic bag filled with ice on top of the deposit. Wait until
deposit becomes brittle enough to crumble off. After deposit has
been removed, clean entire area with Mercer's Hardwood & Laminate
floor cleaner.
